Extension of winter vacation for government and private schools

The Lahore High Court has ordered the provincial government to extend winter vacations in public and private schools of Lahore due to the lack of improvement in the smog situation.

According to the details, Justice Shahid Karim, while hearing the petitions against smog, gave a decision that schools will remain closed from January 2 to January 8.

It is worth mentioning here that all government and private schools and colleges across Punjab including Lahore are currently on winter vacation. The winter vacation in Lahore schools began on December 24 and was scheduled to end on January 31, when the academic session was originally scheduled to begin on January 2.

Last week, the LHC asked the School Education Department (SED) to consider extending the winter vacation from one week to two weeks in view of the worsening smog situation in Lahore.

Earlier this month, the Punjab government announced three weekly holidays for public and private educational institutions in Lahore amid the prevailing smog. Three holidays per week will be effective until further notice.

SED issued a notification saying that all public and private schools in Lahore will remain closed on every Friday and Saturday. A public holiday on Sunday will count as the third holiday.
